Lüneburg-Scharnebeck Ship’s Hoist

The ship lift offers modern cargo ships the possibility to overcome a height of 38 metres. The Elbe side canal connects the Elbe (Artlenburg) and the Mittellandkanal (Wolfsburg). A height difference of 61 metres is overcome along the entire stretch of the Elbe side canal.

Of this, the Uelzen lock bridges 23 metres and the Scharnebeck ship lift the remaining 38 metres.

AL Gummi was commissioned with the following services in 2018:

  • Manufacture of two gap water seals made of chloroprene (CR) in the course of the revision, dimensions approx. 13m wide and approx. 6m high on the vertical and horizontal sections with double steel cord insert
  • The seal had to be adapted and installed on site. Here are some impressions of the ship lift and the installation by AL Gummi
