Bellows for industry and machine tools

AL Gummi + Kunststofftechnik GmbH is a specialist in the production of technological and high quality bellows. We manufacture various types of bellows from different flexible materials such as silicone or rubber.

Bellows are often specially designed, dimensioned and manufactured to meet the requirements of our customers. Thanks to our know-how and specialised manufacturing processes, we are able to produce high-quality bellows that can withstand even complex requirements.

Structure / Function

A bellows is a folded tube, similar to an accordion.

The bellows is often used to protect and seal moving parts such as springs, telescopic arms, shafts and cylinders.
In doing so, the functionality of your machine remains guaranteed while maintenance and repair costs can be reduced.
At the same time, bellows help to prevent operational accidents because it protects your employees from injuries, e.g. as a mesh or crush protection.

Bellowsas moulded article or pressed part

We manufacture the bellows using the compression moulding process. In these processes we are able to manufacture bellows in many sizes and individual shapes.

Depending on the application, we use elastomer formulations with different degrees of hardness: very flexible or firm and dimensionally stable – your application decides.

Due to this process, we can produce bellows in small and medium quantities particularly economically.

WrappedBellows

The wrapped bellow is a flexible intermediate piece for pipes for conveying liquids, gases, suspensions or for creating a vacuum.
Depending on the application, we can advise you on the best design and the right materials.

Advantages of wound bellows from AL Gummi

  • Small to large bellows with a good aspect ratio can be realised
  • Material selection (also food grade or antistatic) possible according to your requirements
  • Economical production of single pieces and small series
  • large mandrel stock available, thus often no moulding costs
  • various connection options can be produced – cuff/flange or both
  • Vulcanised production without joining seams, thus absolutely airtight and watertight
  • good pressure resistance due to textile inserts

Rubber disc bellows

The disc bellows is a high-quality, versatile bellows. Due to its shape and processing technology, it occupies a special position in the product group of bellows.

The disc bellows offers particular advantages in special applications where it is necessary to provide the greatest possible length compensation.
AL Gummi und Kunststofftechnik offers sewn disc bellows made of various rubberised or PU-coated polyester fabrics.
Special materials are available for unusual requirements (e.g. high-temperature applications).

Other features of a disc bellows are its smooth, precise cylindrical outer contour and a defined number of pleats. This makes it a sought-after solution when design is also important.

Advantages disc bellows

  • Large LMAX, small LMIN
  • variable diameters thanks to system tools
  • particularly uniform and smooth outer contour
  • Usually no moulding costs
  • Can be produced inexpensively in small quantities
  • Free choice of connections: cuff/flange or both
  • With aeration and deaeration on request
  • Special materials are available for special applications

Design featureBellows as moulded article or pressed part

We manufacture the bellows using the classic compression moulding (CM) process. In this process, we manually insert an uncured rubber compound into a heatable vulcanising mould.
The mould is then sealed in a press. Due to the pressure generated by the press and the mould temperature, the rubber softens, begins to flow and thus fills the mould cavity.
After a set time has elapsed, the vulcanised bellows are then removed.

We produce single bellows or also round, cylindrical and conical bellows from rubber and silicone as required.

Design featureWrapped bellows

The production of this type is done as a freehand article. The production of this bellows is done by winding. In the winding process, prefabricated blank webs are placed on a mandrel or sheet metal model prepared for this purpose. Textile inserts can also be added for reinforcement. This is especially recommended for higher pressure resistance.
The bellows are brought into the mould by means of cotton bandages and then vulcanisation takes place in an autoclave (steam boiler). The vulcanisation process gives the bellows its final strength and the fabric inserts are permanently embedded.

Design featureDisc bellows

The disc bellows is usually made of CR, NBR or EPDM rubber.
The starting point is individual ring-shaped discs that are joined together alternately on the outside and inside. This creates a uniform material connection and the closed bellows of any length.
The exact material properties can be found in our list of materials.
For horizontal use, the disc bellows can be stabilised by internal sliding bushes. This prevents the disc bellows from touching the spindle.
When moving, an overpressure or underpressure is created in the disc bellows. Therefore, the bellows must also be aerated and deaerated. At your request, we will add an appropriate number of aeration and deaeration elements.

Depending on the application requirements, you can choose a cuff, flange or a combination of both as a connection.

MaterialsBellows

Our materials are the basis of our bellows and machine protection parts. Each bellows is developed and dimensioned for its specific application. Often the area of application determines the material from which we produce your bellows. Below you will find a selection of possible materials.

If you have a special requirement, please contact us. Our trained staff will work with you to find a solution to ensure functionality and durability.
